'In the operations against MONT DE MERRIS near STRAZEELE on the night 2nd/3rd June, 1918 Lance Corporal WRIGHT displayed great coolness, determination and devotion to duty. He was in charge of a wiring party whose duty it was to wire the front of the new posts after capture. Within five minutes of capture of position he was at work and carried on through heavy shell and machine gun fire until the work was completed. During one stage of the work he was within 30 yards of a sap along which a bomb fight was in progress but he stuck to his post and it was mainly through his efforts that the posts were made secure against counter attacks.'
