Private Wroth was taken on strength of the 48th Battalion from the 8th reinforcements on 21 July 1917, and was wounded in action 11 August 1917.

He embarked on the "Ville de Liege" at France for England, and was admitted to the Military Hospital suffering from gun shot wounds to his face, left shoulder, and left leg.

Left theatre of war on 27 December 1917 for return to Australia per HMAT A34 "Persic".
