War service: Western Front Embarked Brisbane, 19 September 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 9 December 1916; marched in to 13th Training Bn, 10 December 1916. Found guilty, Codford, 3 January 1917, of overstaying leave from 1 am, 3 January, to 2 pm, 5 January 1917: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 6 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 8 February 1917; taken on strength, 49th Bn, in the field, 13 February 1917. Detached to School of Instruction, 24 March 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 9 April 1917. Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, right forearm), admitted same day to 9th Casualty Clearing Station and transferred to Ambulance Train No 112, and admitted to 55th General Hospital, Abbeville, 8 June 1917; transferred to England, 13 June 1917, and admitted same day to County of Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury (wound: severe); transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 19 July 1917; discharged on furlough, 17 August 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 31 August 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Borda', 26 September 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 21 November 1917; re-embarked on HT 'Suevic' for Brisbane, 22 November 1917; discharged, Brisbane, 5 January 1918.
