Military Medal 'On the morning of 23rd August, 1918 in the attack on ST. MARTIN'S WOOD, Cpl. YOUNG went forward to reconnoitre positions under heavy fire. Seeing the left flank was exposed he hurriedly brought his guns up and opened fire causing the enemy severe casualties and forcing them to retire. By his initiative in taking his guns forward to an exposed position and opening rapid fire he was instrumental in saving many lives and his courage and disregard of personal safety was a splendid example to all.'
