Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. His N.C.O. was a member of a trench mortar detachment in action in the village of VILLERS BRETONNEUX. On the morning of 13th May, 1918, the position was heavily shelled, and a direct hit ignited the ammunition. Corporal BROOKS, at great personal risk, worked untiringly until the fire was extinguished. This gallant and timely conduct undoubtedly saved three mortars in position and a quantity of ammunition, and set an excellent example to all present.'
