War service: embarked Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on board HT 'Durham Castle', 19 September 1918; disembarked Tilbury, England, 25 September 1918. Allotted to 5th Bn, 3 October 1918. Admitted to Sutton Veny Military Hospital, 31 October 1918 (tonsilitis); discharged from hospital, 27 November 1918 (influenza). Proceeded overseas to France, 28 January 1919; taken on strength, 5th Bn, in the field, 1 February 1919. Marched out to England, 23 May 1919; disembarked England, 24 May 1919. Found guilty, 22 August 1919, of (1) drunkenness in Piccadilly Circus; (2) begging in Piccadilly Circus; (3) violently resisting arrest; (4) being absent without leave from 1-6 August 1919: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 26 days' pay. Found guilty, Westminster Police Court, 23 September 1919, of begging: bound over under the sum of �£5 for 12 months. Found guilty, Central Criminal Court, London, 2 March 1920, of robbery with violence: awarded 12 months' and 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour; sentences to run concurrently. Unexpired portion of sentence remitted, 16 July 1920, and embarked for return to Australia. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Barambah', 16 July 1920; disembarked Melbourne, 6 September 1920; discharged, 6 September 1920 ('services no longer required: unsatisfactory conduct; discharged as a bad character').
