Embarked Melbourne, 11 May 1917; admitted to ship's hospital at sea, 4 June 1917 (appendicitis); discharged from ship's hospital, 8 June 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 20 July 1917, and marched in to 6th Training Bn, Rollestone.

Admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, 23 July 1917 (sub acute appendicitis); discharged to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 26 September 1917.

Marched in to 6th Training Bn, Rollestone, 30 September 1917.

Found guilty, 26 April 1918, of being absent without leave from midnight, 23 April, till 6 pm, 25 April 1918: awarded 6 days' confined to camp and forfeiture of 6 days' pay; total forfeiture: 8 days' pay.

Proceeded overseas to France, 6 May 1918; taken on strength, 24th Bn, in the field, 11 May 1918.

Admitted to hospital, 15 May 1918; discharged to duty, 21 May 1918 (no further details recorded).

Wounded in action, 1 June 1918 (gas), and admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 55th Casualty Clearing Station; to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 9 June 1918; to England, 12 June 1918, and admitted to Bath War Hospital, 14 June 1918 (gassed shell: severe); transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 17 July 1918; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 14 October 1918.

Found guilty, 6 November 1918, of being absent without leave from 0001 till 1730, 5 November: awarded 7 days' confined to barracks, and forfeited 1 day's pay.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Gaika', 8 November 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 29 December 1918; discharged (medically unfit: typhlitis), Melbourne, 1 February 1919.
