Wounded in action, 25 September 1916 (gas shell); admitted to 55th Casualty Clearing station, 26 September 1918; transferred to 6th General Hospital, Rouen, 27 September 1918; to England, 1 October 1918, and admitted to 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol, 2 October 1918; discharged from hospital, 18 November 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Aeneas', 18 December 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 5 February 1919; discharged (medically unfit: gas and dyspnoea), 30 March 1919.
