War service: Egypt, Western Front

Embarked Alexandria, 28 May 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 7 June 1916.

Found guilty, 13 June 1916, of being absent with leave, 5th Training Bn, Perham Downs, from 9 am, 8 June, to 9 pm, 12 June 1916: forfeited 10 days' pay, and and a further 5 days' pay under Royal Warrant.

Proceeded overseas to France, 10 September 1916; joined 17th Bn, in the field, 21 September 1916.

Killed in action, 8 November 1916.

Statement, Red Cross File, 2770 Corporal G.H. ROBINSON, B Company, 17th Bn (patient 9th General Hospital, Rouen), 8 December 1916: 'I saw Aplin killed by shell fire on the 8th November near High Wood. His body was buried in a shell hole outside the trench.'
