During a raid on the enemy line, he directed the advance of the raiding party, and though on his arrival at the enemy trenches he was bombed, he got his party together on the flank and entered the trenches. Moving along the parapet, he personally directed his men, heavy casualties being inflicted on the enemy. On the completion of his task, he withdrew his party, and went through the trenches to see that no wounded men had been left behind.
