Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 21 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 27 March 1916. joined 25th Bn, 8 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 29 July 1916 (bomb wound, right thigh), and admitted to 1st Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 44th Casualty Clearing Station, and thence to Ambulance Train; to England, 2 August 1916, and admitted to East Leeds War Hospital, 3 August 1916; transferred to No 3 Australian Auxiliary hospital, Dartford (date not recorded); discharged on furlough, 13 October 1916, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 28 October 1916.

Proceeded overseas to France, 3 February 1917; rejoined Bn, 9 February 1917.

Admitted to 6th Field Ambulance, 12 March 1917 (influenza); transferred to Divisiional Rest Station, 12 March 1917; 1/1 Midlands Casualty Clearing Station, 21 March 1917; to 11th Stationary Hospital, 27 March 1917; to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 29 March 1917; to Base Depot, 2 April 1917; rejoined Bn, 20 April 1917.

Attached to 7th Machine Gun Bn, 21 April 1917; rejoined 25th Bn, 4 July 1917.

Admitted to 5th Australian field Ambulance, 17 July 1917 (debility); transferred same day to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; to 2nd General Hospital, Havre, 21 July 1917; discharged to Base Details, 22 July 1917.
