Military Medal

'At BOIS DE CHREPY and AUGER WOOD on August 10th and 11th 1918 this N.C.O. as C.S.M. of "C" Company showed great ability and pronounced bravery in organising depleted Companies under intense shelling and machine gun fire. During the advance on a strong point in X.30.c.2.8. when the officer in charge of the platoon was killed, this N.C.O. seizing the opportunity went and resumed command. By his careful summing up of the situation his platoon went forward to the attack and completely mopped up this strong point. This small operation resulted in the capture of 2 Officers and 6 other ranks. On the evening of the 10th instant this N.C.O. organised all Carrying parties to the front line and ensured that a sufficient supply of water, S.A.A., and rations reached the line garrisons. On the morning of the 11th this N.C.O. was blown up three times and finally wounded in the execution of his duty and he still carried on. His personal courage and marked adaptability was the means of inspiring all ranks.'
