War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 15 May 1915. Sick to hospital, Anzac Cove, 6 July 1915; returned to duty, 9 July 1915 (no further details recorded). Found guilty, 24 July 1915, of disobedience of orders: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2. Wounded in action, 4 August 1915 (bullet wound, skull; condition dangerous), and admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 21st General Hospital, Alexandria, 1 October 1915; to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, Cairo, 1 October 1915. Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Borda', 15 November 1915. Died (abscess of brain, fractured skull), 5th Australian General Hospital, Melbourne, 17 December 1915.
