Military Medal 'On the night of 29th September, 1917, the road in the vicinity of WESTHOEK was shattered by concentrated enemy fire causing great confusion and animal casualties. This Driver rendered great assistance to the Engineers, several of whose Drivers had been wounded, by releasing horses and clearing a passage working for two hours with his Section Sergeant, when all others had sought safety owing to heavy shelling. He again, on the 30th September, 1917, volunteered to save a wagon in the forward area and returned driving his own wagon with salved wagon attached past an ammunition dump which was exploding. His courage, coolness and devotion to duty are highly commended.'
