Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations east of the Jordan at Black Hill on 2nd, 3rd and 4th May 1918. As stretcher bearer, he showed great courage in dressing and carrying away wounded under heavy artillery and rifle fire. When the 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment lost their stretcher bearers, he gave them assistance, as well as attending to the wounded of his own squadron. For three days and nights he worked continuously showing the greatest fortitude and self sacrifice.'
