War service: Egypt, Western Front Admitted to No 4 Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 12 January 1916 (mumps); discharged, 12 January 1916. Marched out of 3rd Training Bn, Zeitoun, 29 February 1916, and taken on strength of 49th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 29 February 1916. Appointed Driver in 1st Line Transport, 7 April 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 5 June 1917; disembarked Marseilles, France, 13 June 1916. Admitted to No 13 Australian Field Ambulance, 8 August 1917 (gonorrhoea); transferred to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 8 August 1917; to No 2 Canadian General Hospital, Le Treport, 11 August 1917; to No 39 General Hospital, Le Havre, 13 August 1917; discharged, 17 October 1917, and marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Le Havre, the same day; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 71 days.
