Wounded in action, Gallipoli, 1 May 1915 (gun shot wound, upper extremities); transferred to England, and admitted to 3rd Western General Hospital, Manchester, 20 May 1915.

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Star of Victoria', 9 January 1916; disembarked Melbourne, 29 February 1916, and admitted to 5th Australian General Hospital.

Transferred to Clifton Springs Convalescent Home, 15 March 1916; transferred to 5th Australian General Hospital; discharged (medically unfit), Melbourne, 5 December 1916.

Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

Re-enlisted, 17 October 1917, for Home Service 'only for such period as services may be required.'
