Military Medal 'During the operations West of BELLENGLISE on 18th/19th September, 1918. For bravery and devotion to duty as runner. He carried messages from front line during the attack through heavy enemy barrage fire. He also crossed machine gun swept area to take information to flank Companies. He continued to carry on until utterly exhausted. His grit and determination were very noticeable.'

Wounded in action, 13 November 1916, and admitted to No 36 Casualty Clearing Station the same day (gunshot wound, face); transferred to No 8 General Hospital, Rouen, 15 November 1916; to England, 20 November 1916; to No 4 Southern General Hospital, Plymouth, 21 November 1916; to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 5 January 1917. Marched into Infantry Draft Depot, Perham Downs, 3 February 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 5 April 1917; marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 6 April 1917. Proceeded to unit, 5 May 1917; rejoined 46th Bn, 6 May 1917. On leave to England, 30 September 1917; rejoined unit, 10 October 1917. Allotted Regimental Number 2044A, no date stated.
