Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry at Chuignes, 23 August, 1918. At a critical stage of the attack he took up a position with his Lewis gun and silenced one enemy machine gun which was holding up the advance. He then dashed forward, firing from the hip, and knocked out another gun, killing two and wounding three of the enemy.'
