War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 23 June 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 25 August 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 16 November 1916; taken on strength, 55th Bn, 1 December 1916. Admitted to 56th Casualty Clearing Station, 3 May 1917 (otitis media); transferred to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Doullens, 3 May 1917; discharged to duty, 5 June 1917; rejoined Bn, 8 June 1917. Wounded in action, 26 September 1917 (gun shot wound, left hand); admitted to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Wimereux, 27 September 1916; transferred to England, 28 September 1917, and admitted same day to Guildford War Hospital; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 26 October 1917; discharged on furlough, 14 November 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 28 November 1917. Found guilty of being absent without leave from 6 pm, 28 November, until apprehended by Military Police, 2 pm, 30 November 1917: awarded 7 days' confined to camp; forfeited 3 days' pay.
