Taken on strength, 2nd Bn, Tel el Kebir, 21 January 1916. Transferred to 54th Bn, 14 February 1916. Admitted to 9th Field Ambulance, Ferry Post, 2 May 1916 (scarlet fever); rejoined unit, 8 May 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 29 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 19 July 1916 (gun shot wound, chest); admitted to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station, 20 July 1916; transferred by Ambulance Train No 7 to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, 22 July 1916; to England, 22 July 1916, and admitted to 4th London General Hospital, Denmark Hill, 23 July 1916; to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 2 December 1916 (wound, left shoulder, slight); to No 4 Command Depot, Wareham, 5 December 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 March 1917; rejoined unit, 12 April 1917.

Wounded in action, 15 May 1917 (shell shock); admitted to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, 17 May 1917; discharged to duty, 20 June 1917; rejoined unit, 28 June 1917.
