Military Medal 'Throughout the whole of the operations from 8th August, 1918, to 5th October, 1918, Sergeant BURGESS has been conspicuous for his daring and initiative. on 5th October, 1918, at MONTEBREHAIN, east of AMIENS, this N.C.O. was in charge of a small party detailed to get in touch with the Brigade on the right flank. He had to move through the township of MONTBREHAIN which was known to be occupied by the enemy. As he approached the village he and his party were subjected to intense enemy machine gun and rifle fire. Sergeant BURGESS disposed his party in such a manner that they by excellent markmanship inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy, compelling them to withdraw from the position from which was later occupied by our own troops. This N.C.O. alone accounted for from 15 to 20 of the enemy by his daring and accurate shooting.'
