Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 25 June 1916.

Transferred to 14th Field Artillery Brigade, 9 July 1916.

Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, 8 August 1916 (diptheria); rejoined unit, in the field, 10 August 1916.

Found guilty, 23 October 1916, of using obscene language to an NCO: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Admitted to 5th Division Rest Station, 27 February 1917 (paronychia of toe); rejoined unit, 6 April 1917.

Found guilty, 7 May 1917, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he absented himself from stable picquet without permission: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Found guilty, 18 November 1917, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he left stables during a parade without permission and used improper language to an NCO: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Rejoined unit from detention, 19 December 1917.

On leave to England, 16 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 8 December 1918.

Found guilty, 30 January 1919, of being absent without leave from 10pm, 14 January, to 3pm, 15 January: awarded forfeiture of 2 days' pay; total forfeiture; 3 days' pay.
