Admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, Gallipoli, 28 August 1915 (dysentry); discharged to duty, 30 August 1915. Disembarked from Mudros, 9 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation).

Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'Ascania' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 March 1916; to be Lance Corporal, 23 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 25 March 1916.

Found guilty, 29 April 1916, of being absent without leave, 6.00 pm, 18 April, to 6.00 pm, 26 April 1916: sentenced to forfeit 9 days' pay.

Admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance, 26 June 1916, and transferred to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station (shrapnel wound laceration, right thigh); to Australian Hospital, Wimereux, 27 June 1916. Embarked Boulogne on HS 'Brighton' to England, 29 June1916, and admitted to Ist Southern General Hospital; transferred to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, 9 August 1916; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 14 October 1916; marched into No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 21 April 1917; classified B.1 A.3, 22 April 1917; reclassified B.2 a, 2 May 1917; reclassified B.1 A.2, 9 August 1917; marched out for temporary duty with 15th Training Bn, 4 October 1917; marched into No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 8 October 1917; reclassified B.1 A.4, 19 October 1917; reclassified A.3, 6 November 1917.

Found guilty, 29 January 1918, of neglecting to obey Regimental Order 719 of 22 June 1917 in that he was in Kings Elen Hotel at about 1.45 pm without a pass: reprimanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Flintoff.

Sick to Brigade Hopital, Hurdcott, 7 March 1918; marched into No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, from Brigade Hospital, 4 May 1918; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 8 May 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Barambah', 6 June 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 31 July 1918, for onward travel to Sydney. Discharged Sydney, 26 October 1918.
