Military Medal 'During the attack on 20th September 1917 near WESTHOEK this stretcher bearer continually carried back from the front line wounded men through intense shell fire, showing absolute disregard for danger. On two occcasions he went forward from our lines into our own barrage and rescued men who were lying there wounded. Later when badly wounded he refused to allow himself to be carried and made his own way to the rear.'
