Admitted to 6th Field Ambulance, Gallipoli, 28 September 1915 (diarrhoea); transferred by HS 'Gloucester Castle' to Malta, and admitted to hospital, 1 October 1915. Discharged from hospital and embarked for Egypt on board HT 'Lake Manitoba', 2 December 1915.

Wounded in action, France, 28 July 1916; rejoined Bn, 12 August 1916.

Promoted Corporal, 29 July 1916.

Wounded in action (2nd occasion), 23 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left shoulder); transferred to England, 31 August 1916, and admitted to 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol (wound severe). Marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth from No 2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 31 October 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 February 1917; rejoined Bn, 2 March 1917.

Wounded in action (3rd occasion), 3 May 1917 (gun shot wound, right arm, severe); transferred to England, 19 May 1917, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, 20 May 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Anchises', 1 November 1917; disembarked, 3 Janmuary 1918.
