Military Medal 'For gallantry and devotion to duty at ESTREES on 28th/29th August, 1918. As linesmen attached to forward observation Officer, Gunners BUTCHER and [29059 W.J.] COOLEY maintained communications both between Field Observation Officer and Battalion Headquarters and between Battalion and Artillery Brigade Headquarters. By their disregard of danger and untiring efforts they enabled the C.O.O. to keep Artillery Brigade Headquarters informed of the situation and permitted opportunities to be taken advantage of. Their line was the only one available for the transmission of information regarding the situation.'
