Meritorious Service Medal 'This N.C.O. has performed excellent and meritorious service throughout the operations on the SOMME and during July, August and September 1918, being in charge of parties emplacing Mortars both prior to and during the attacks, and also assisting in maintaining the ammunition supply. He has displayed determination and courage throughout of high order, setting a splendid example to his men, and is deserving of special recognition.'
