Embarked Alexandria on board HT Huntsend' to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 29 June 1916.

Found guilty, 20 August 1916, of smoking while on duty: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Admitted to General Hospital, 2 November 1916 (gun shot wound to head); transferred to St George Hospital, England, 9 November 1916; to Northhampton War Hospital, 10 November 1916; to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 6 December 1916; discharged from hospital, 14 December 1916.

Found guilty, 9 February 1917, of being absent without leave form 3:00 pm, 6 February, to 4:00 pm, 7 February 1917: awarded 1 day's Field Punishment No 2 and forfeited 4 days' pay.

Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 9 March 1917; transferred to Parkhouse Military Hospital, 13 April 1917; discharged from hospital and marched in, 18 April 1917; marched out to Command Depot, Perham Downs, 17 May 1917; marched out to Camp Headquarters, 21 May 1917; proceeded overseas to France, 20 June 1917; marched in from England to rejoin unit, 21 June 1917; rejoined unit, 13 July 1917.

On leave, 25 August 1918; reported absent without leave, 11 September 1918.

Found guilty, 20 January 1919, of being absent from 10:00 am, 1 October 1918, to 2:30 pm, 17 January 1919: awarded admonishment by Commanding Officer and forfeited 109 days' pay.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Ascanius', 9 February 1919.
