Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the offensive east of HAMEL on the morning of the 8th August, 1918, this soldier had charge of a gun team. He showed great skill in the way in which he pushed his gun forward giving mutual support to the Infantry. When the 4th Australian Division passed through he rushed his gun forward, using overhead fire. He showed great skill in the use of ground and engaging targets. Throughout the whole operation his initiative undoubtedly saved the lives of many of his comrades. He set a fine example of courage and endurance to all in this vicinity.'
