Military Medal 'During the attack on MONT ST. QUENTIN, near PERONNE on 31st August 1918, this man was a lewis gunner on post on the right flank, and during the day kept the enemy back by his splendid shooting in spite of the fact that the enemy machine guns were constantly playing round him. Later, he dispersed a party of 15 to 20 of the enemy who were attempting to creep round the flank of the 19th Battalion. he then blew out an enemy Machine Gun by a direct burst. At daybreak, while the rest of the platoon were bombing along the trench, with utter disregard to himself, he stood up on the parapet alone and emptied magazine after magazine into the enemy, 20 of whom were left dead
