Embarked from Alexandria on board HT 'Marquette' to join Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 25 August 1915. Transferred to 5th Light Horse Regiment, Gallipoli, 29 August 1915. Admitted to No. 3 Field Ambulance Hospital, 21 September 1915 (dysentery). Embarked on HT 'Dunluce Castle' for Malta, 26 September 1915 (gastritis); admitted to Military Hospital, Valetta, 27 September 1915. Embarked for England on HT 'Gascon', 15 October 1915; admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 24 October 1915. Disembarked Alexandria from England, on board HT 'Kingstonian', 5 March 1916; reported for duty, 11th Light Horse Regiment, Heliopolis, 6 March 1916, and taken on strength, 'B' Squadron.

Admitted to 26th Stationary Hospital, Ismailia, 3 October 1916 (urethritis); discharged to duty, 12 October 1916. Transferred to 11th Light Horse Regiment, 30 October 1916, and taken on strength, Serapeum.

Found guilty, 15 January 1917, of being absent without leave, 1300-1700, 13 January 1917: awarded 7 days' confined to barracks. Transferred to 1st Field Squadron Engineers, 5 March 1917. Sick to hospital, Tel el Fara, 8 May 1917; transferred to Citadel Military Hospital, Cairo, 18 May 1917 (diarrhoea); to Convalescent Depot, Abbassia, 25 May 1917 (debility); discharged to Base Signals Depot, 16 June 1917; marched in to 1st Light Horse Training Regiment, 24 June 1917; taken on strength, 1st Field Squadron Engineers, 25 July 1917.

Admitted to 14th Australian General Hospital, Abbassia, 3 October 1917 (ulcer, left foot); transferred to Convalescent Depot, 12 November 1917. Found guilty of when on active service breaking out of barracks 6 pm, 12 November 1917, and remaining absent until apprehended by military police, 10 pm, 12 November 1917; total absence, 4 hours 10 minutes: deprived of 3 days' pay. Transferred to Montaza Convalescent Depot, 28 November 1917; discharged to Engineers Training Unit, Moascar, 5 December 1917; rejoined 1st Field Squadron Engineers, 11 December 1917. Detached for duty to 7th Light Horse Regiment, 4 February 1918; rejoined Field Squadron Engineers, 7 March 1918. Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Berrima', 15 January 1919 (malaria); disembarked Melbourne, 17 February 1919, for onward travel by boat to Brisbane; discharged, 18 April 1919.
