MM Bar

'For conspicuous courage and devotion to during during the attack at ESTREES, east of PERONNE, on 3rd October, 1918. As this N.C.O. neared the objective with his gun crew, he encountered strong opposition from an enemy machine gun nest, which was extremely active and causing losses in the leading waves. Corporal CANNON at once rushed out and jumped into the post, killing the gunner and capturing the remainder of the crew, totalling 4 in all. He remained here until the moppers-up arrived, and then pushed ahead to the furthest objective, rendering excellent service there with his aggressive Lewis gun work, and inspiring all the men in his vicinity.'
