Found guilty, 6 December 1915, of being absent without leave from his billet, 9.45-10.15 pm: reprimanded.

Admitted to hospital, 23 December 1915 (bronchitis); discharged to No 1 Convalescent Depot, 6 January 1916.

Admitted to hospital, 9 January 1916 (insomnia); invalided to England on board HS 'Cambria', 16 January 1916, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth (date not recorded).

Granted a temporary commission in the 3rd Reserve Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, British Army, March 1916; rejected on grounds of medical unfitness (letter dated 21 March 1916).

Admitted to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 31 May 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Plymouth on board HT 'Euripides', 24 June 1916; discharged Sydney (medically unfit), 20 September 1916.
