Admitted to 1st Field Ambulance, 22 January 1917 (injured back); transferred to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, and then to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, 23 January 1917; to 12th General Hospital, 26 January 1917; to England, 30 January 1917, and admitted to 3rd Southern General Hospital, Oxford, 31 January 1917; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 13 April 1917.

Found guilty, 23 April 1917, of (1) being absent without leave, 21-22 April 1917; (2) breaking custody of guard; (3) resisting guard on rearrest: awarded 14 days' confined to barracks.

Discharged from 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, and granted furlough, 7 May 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 22 May 1917.
