Promoted Lance Corporal, Tel el Kebir, 23 January 1916. Transferred to 54th Bn, 14 February 1916; joined 54th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 16 February 1916. Promoted Corporal, 1 March 1916; Lance Sergeant, Canal Zone, 1 May 1916; Sergeant, 24 May 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Posted missing, 19/20 July 1916. Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 4 August 1916, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 19/20 July 1916'. Statement, Red Cross File No 80806, 4503 Pte G.A. GUTHRIE, 54th Bn (patient,1st London General Hospital, Camberwell, England), [?] December 1916: 'I knew Anderson, he was killed in a charge on the Fromelles La Bassee front on July 19th at 7.30 p.m. I was with him and saw him killed, he was not buried as we had to retire the next morning.' Second statement, 3026 Sergeant C. CLARK, C Company, 54th Bn (patient, 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, Kent, England), 19 June 1919: 'He went into action on 19.7.16 about 6 p.m. The last that was seen of Anderon, was when going over No Man's Land on the evening of 19.7.16.
