'At LOUVERVAL, FRANCE, on 15th April 1917, Cpl. CARTWRIGHT was in charge of the picquet post on his Company's right flank. He showed great initiative and skill in giving fire orders, the conserving of his ammunition, attention to the comfort of his men and the sending back of valuable information to the movements of the enemy. 'From February, 1918, to September, 1918, C.Q.M.S. CARTWRIGHT has consistently done excellent work. During the time the Battalion has been very actively engaged, first in minor operations at STRAZEELE and in semi-open warfare in August at LIHONS and CHUIGNOLLES. Throughout the whole of this period this N.C.O. has performed his duties in a most efficient and gallant manner, frequently under most difficult and dangerous conditions, never once failing to get forward and supervise the distribution of his Company's rations. At CHUIGNOLLES on 23rd August, 1918, the Battalion with hts transport and cookers came under heavy shell fire. This N.C.O. then rendered vital assistance to the R.Q.M. in getting the transport into safety, and in distributing a hot meal to the men prior to their going into the attack. This undoubtedly greatly contributed to the successful way this Company carried out the very arduous task assigned to it (the capture of FROISY BEACON0. His cheery unselfishness and soldiery virtue have been at all times an example to all.'
