Commemorated (marble tablet) in St John's Anglican Church, Fremantle, Western Australia. Inscription reads: 'To the glory of God. The Choir Vestry was erected A.D. 1922 in grateful memory of the men from this parish who gave their lives for God and King and Country in the Great War 1914-1919. "Their name liveth for evermore."' Also commemorated in Fremantle Cemetery, Western Australia. Parents: Thomas (d. 26 April 1911, aged 55) and Emma (d. 18 August 1917, aged 60) CARTWRIGHT (both bu. Fremantle Cemetery). Native of Richmond, New South Wales

German report, 30 July 1916 and confirmed on 1 October 1919, 'austr. Sold. Cartwright, Thomas, austr. Batl. 32. D.Komp. Nr.1235. am 19.7.16 in Gegend Fromelles gefallen.'

On 21 October 1916 a telegram was received by Base Records that stated, 'lettergram ... reporting one two three five T C Cartwright missing dated twentieth stop next kin has produced letter from redcross stating that cartwright is believed to have died as prisoner of war stop can investigations be made my cable please'. There is no evidence of a response to this request on the file.

'List of British Dead - (Paybook handed to German authorities from N.O.A.O.K. 6) forwarded by Comite International de la Croix Rouge at Geneva to H.M. Minister at Berne. Assistant Adjutant General rules to be reported as KILLED IN ACTION, 3 October 1916.'
