Meritorious Service Medal 'During the period 25th February to 16th September, 1918. On the afternoon of 7th September, 1918, near TINCOURT, Sapper CASH was riding on the body of a limbered wagon when a shell landed beside the team and killed the driver. The pair of horses took fright and bolted at full gallop along the road towards TINCOURT. Two men riding on the limber were thrown or jumped off. Sapper CASH climbed from the body to the limber, along the pole, mounted the near horse and brought the team to a standstill after they had galloped about half a mile. The horses were excited and entirely out of control. By his prompt and plucky action he probably averted a serious accident as there was traffic on the road ahead of him. He was unwounded but severely shaken.'
