War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Suevic', 11 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 30 January 1917; marched into 5th Training Bn, Rollestone, 30 January 1917. Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 25 April 1917; marched into 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 26 April 1917; joined 17th Bn in the field, 2 May 1917. Admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, 20 September 1917, and transferred to 16th General Hospital, Le Treport, 23 September 1917 (shrapnel wound, right leg, scalp). Proceeded to England on HS 'Warilda', 7 December 1917, and admitted to Beaufort War Hospital, Bristol, 8 December 1917; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 29 January 1918; discharged to Depot, 16 March 1918. Commenced return to Australia on 'Wandila', 16 March 1918 (fracture, right leg); changed to HS 'Kanowna', Suez, 15 April 1918; disembarked Sydney, 24 May 1918.
