Military Medal

'In the Operation near CLERY on the 29th/30th August 1918, this man showed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Though being continually sniped at by the enemy, he carried out a reconnaissance of an enemy communication trench. He encountered an enemy sniper and shot him returning with valuable information of enemy retirement. Later he voluntarily rushed forward under heavy machine gun fire with ammunition for Lewis Guns and continued carrying ammunition forward.'
