'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near HARBONNIERES, East of VILLERS-BRETONNEUX on 9th August, 1918. Sergeant CATHIE led his platoon with great success in the attack and handled it with splendid skill under difficult conditions. Early in the attack and handled it with splendid skill under difficult conditions. Early in the attack he was severely wounded but continued to lead his platoon under very heavy machine gun fire, and not until the enemy commenced to retire did he hand over his platoon. His splendid example of courage, determination and leadership is worthy of high recognition.'
