Military Medal 'This N.C.O. displayed the greatest courage and devotion to duty in the action near ZONNEBEKE east of YPRES on 4th October, 1917. Regardless of enemy barrages he attended to the bandaging and evacuation of wounded regardless of risk to himself. Towards the end of the seven days tour, in heavily shelled and wet trenches, his cheerfulness and great courage was responsible for keeping up the spirits of tired and sorely tried men.'
