'This Warrant Officer has been R.S.M. of the 5th Australian D.A. Column during the period 17th September to 28th December, 1917. He has always carried out his duties in a thorough and conscientious manner, and has shown great devotion to duty. His duties during active operations were exacting and arduous, but were always performed in a cheerful and energetic manner, setting a splendid example to all ranks.'
