Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While parties of infantry were entering Maulde on 25th/26th October, 1918, he investigated that town for enemy mines and traps. The place [was] being heavily shelled with yellow cross gas, and he had to wear a mask the whole day. He found and rendered harmless a large number of mines and traps. The following day he chlorinated places where gas mines had exploded and afterwards, at great risk, removed twelve overdue relay action mines from under priority railway lines.'
