Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry on the 10th day of August 1918 at LIHONS. During the attack, when the right flank of the leading wave, appeared to be in the air, this soldier took charge of his Lewis Gun section, and dashing ahead engaged two hostile Machine Guns keeping their fire down until communication with the flank unit was established. Later, when very strong oppossition was met with, he and two other ranks went forward, and bombing along a communication trench from a flank, succeeded in entering two German Machine Gun posts and capturing two Machine Guns and killing the crews of fifteen men.'
