'This man acted as a Battalion Runner in the operations 29th/31st August, 1916, north west of POZIERES. He worked for 48 hours without rest carrying messages at all times and through all dangers. His devotion to duty was most conspicuous. He was wounded in three places while carrying the final message of his tour of duty, but despite his wounds he struggled on and successfully delivered the message.'
