Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 26 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 2 April 1916.

Wounded in action, 25 July 1916, and admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by No 21 Ambulance Train, 25 July 1916, and admitted to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, 26 July 1916 (shell shock - mild; buried); transferred to England, 31 July 1916, and admitted same day to 3rd Northern General Hospital, Sheffield; discharged (date not recorded), and taken on strength, No 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 22 September 1916. Reported back from furlough, 9 October 1916. Found guilty, 12 October 1916, of being absent without leave, 3-9 pm, 7 October 1916: awarded 1 day confined to camp and forfeited 1 day's pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 9 October 1916; rejoined unit, 16 January 1917.

Admitted to No 2 Australian Field Ambulance, 26 November 1917 (pyrexia, unknown origin); transferred to No 3 Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 26 November 1917; to No 7 Convalescent Depot, 13 December 1917 (myalgia); to Australian Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 2 January 1918; transferred to England, 15 January 1918; marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 16 January 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Osterley', 31 January 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 12 April 1918; discharged, 18 May 1918.
