Military Medal 'During the attack near MONT ST. QUENTIN North East of PERONNE, on 2nd September 1918, this N.C.O. took command of the platoon when his officer and sergeant had been wounded. His platoon suffered very heavy casualties, but he rallied the remainder and led them against an enemy strong post under heavy machine gun fire. (Seventeen machine guns were finally taken in this one post). Seeing that another platoon was outflanking this post, he held his ground under heavy enemy fire, and by ably controlling the fire of his men, greatly assisted in the flank attack against the post. By his coolness and skill in handling his men, he enabled the advance to continue.'
