War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 19 September 1919; found guilty, at sea, 18 October 1916, of failing to appear for piquet when warned for duty: awarded 72 hours' confined to barracks; disembarked Plymouth, England, 14 November 1916. Found guilty, 28 December 1916, of being absent without leave from 0800, 21 December, to 1130, 22 December 1917: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited a total of 21 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 16 January 1917; taken on strength, 32nd Bn, in the field, 21 January 1917. Found guilty, 9 March 1917, of being absent without leave, 24 February-noon, 8 March 1917: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeiture of a total of 41 days' pay. On leave to United Kingdom, 6 February 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 23 February 1918.
